Abstract:
Images and symbols are the main actors in the digital world because they appeal to one of the most effective human bent, the imagination as social experience. The “variable view”, which makes use of images and symbols, implies an innovative reading practice and vision literacy. The look is redirect from the “view as belief” via the “view as interpretation” to the “view as being”. This new language has the function to interpret and store representations because it is enabled with a different and deeper perception by the technological development and the surpass of the Cartesian world control. The vision shifts from the form to the relations’ flow, from the structured language to the vision and the de-structured tactile sensation. The digital world is organized by flows, placed at the base of the emotional interaction. Flow of thoughts and actions, flow of memory, binary flow and cognitive flow work on the same ground to represent and interpret the approach to the new media knowledge. Algorithms are part of this language and work according to the “minmax logic” –already born in the 70s- to communicate the most (information) spending the less (ink-space-time). A language, based on the abstractive process, contains a universal meaning strictly related to human perception and data structures, therefore it permits the access to cultural materials. Math is the foundation and dynamic-data-connection, the flow, is the substance. The algorithms satisfy the need to move and work in a no-hierarchical rhizomathic system and to personalize the information access and manipulation. During the cognitive process, individuals operate a detachment from the “possible worlds” and the “personal memory”, painting a collective super-holistic reality.
